What Is My Hourly Rate? Converting Salary to Hourly Pay
How to convert an annual salary into an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly rate — and why the standard 2,080-hour year is the key number.
The 2,080-hour rule
A standard full-time year is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. To convert a salary to an hourly rate, divide the annual figure by 2,080. A $62,400 salary works out to exactly $30/hour.
Adjusting for your real schedule
If you work more or fewer hours, or take significant unpaid time off, adjust the hours-per-year figure accordingly. Part-time and contract workers especially should use their actual hours to get an accurate rate.
Gross vs. take-home
These conversions use gross pay — before taxes. Your actual take-home hourly rate is lower once federal tax, FICA, and state tax come out. Use our Take-Home Pay Calculator to see the net figure.
